Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is gaining increasing traction in the industry based on the promise of reducing both CAPEX and OPEX using COTS hardware. NFV decouples the network functions such as NAT, Firewall, DPI, IPS/IDS, WAAS, SBC, RR etc from proprietary hardware appliances, so they can run in software.
It utilizes standard IT virtualization technologies that run on high-volume service, switch and storage hardware to virtualize network functions. It involves the implementation of network functions in software that can run on a range of industry standard server hardware, and that can be moved to, or instantiated in, various locations in the network as required, without the need for installation of new equipment.
In this 2-Day NFV bootcamp targeted for Enterprise designs, we understand the cloud computing principles and motivation for enterprise private clouds. We discuss the popular openstack software being used by big Enterprises across the world for building Private cloud Infrastructure. We understand the key Linux networking concepts and other vendor technologies including Cisco VTS and ACI that help to achieve network virtualization. We perform many hands-on exercises to understand the concepts. We discuss the enterprise architecture, components involved, applications hosted at head qurters, how branch office connects to applications, extensions of enterprise onto AWS Virtual Private Cloud and other Public Cloud SaaS applications like Microsoft office 365 and webex. We perform hands-on lab to understand the next generation enterprise architectures by leveraging the Cisco CSR 1KV to connect the branch to HQ Private Cloud and extensions into AWS and Public Cloud SaaS offerings. We also leverage Cisco APIC-EM enterprise controller and iWAN application to manage the CSR 1KV for SD-WAN offerings.
